The Boston Bruins take the ice with the Washington Capitals in Sunday NHL action.

The Boston Bruins have been fading with losses in five of six after a 3-2 OT defeat versus visiting Philadelphia on Thursday. David Pastrnak scored in the first on the power play and again in the second for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask gave up three goals on 41 shots to secure a point for Boston to bring his record to 14-8-4.

Claude Giroux scored in the first for Philadelphia with Oskar Lindholm lighting the lamp in the third. Travis Sanheim tallied the overtime winner for the Flyers and Jakub Voracek assisted twice to make the 23 stops of Carter Hart a winner.

The Washington Capitals began the second half of the season with a 4-3 win against visiting Calgary on Friday. Mikael Backlund, Garnet Hathaway and Elias Lindholm scored for Calgary. TJ Bodie assisted twice for the Flames and Mike Smith took the loss with four goals allowed on 39 shots.

Nic Dowd, Dmitrij Jaskin, Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov lit the lamp for Washington. Kuznetsov also had an assist and Braden Holtby picked up the win with 26 stops.

Bruins are 0-7 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan and Bruins are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Over is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 overall and Capitals are 1-7 in their last 8 overall and Capitals are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. Over is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings in Washington and Bruins are 0-7 in the last 7 meetings in Washington and over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings. 

I’m not convinced Washington has righted the ship but small on the Capitals…
