The Bruins look for their sixth win in a row and inch closer to a playoff berth as they head into Washington to battle the Capitals.
The Boston Bruins have long been considered a playoff threat in the Eastern Conference but after getting upended by the Canadiens in the second round last year and a number of changes in the offseason they look like a completely different group and run the risk of missing the postseason altogether this year. However, the B's are going down without a fight and have won five games in a row heading into tonight and currently hold on to the second and final wild card spot in the East and are just two points back of the Detroit Red Wings for the third automatic berth in the Atlantic division bracket. The B's will look to distance themselves from the Senators who are the only team still in the hunt and with a win they can leapfrog the Penguins into the first wild card spot and avoid a first round match up against the Rangers.
The Capitals have been one of the biggest surprises in the league this season and have the look of a playoff team as they have a ton of fire power up front, an underrated blue line, and one of the better goalies in hockey and if they can match up against the Rangers in the second round there is a good chance they can get to the Cup finals. The Caps have been great at home this season and still have a lot to play for despite their already clinching a playoff spot as they'd love to clinch home ice in the first round and while Boston needs the win more the Caps are much better in terms of goal differential and they get the nod here for me.
