The Washington Capitals look to extend their home ice success as they host the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night at the Verizon Center.
The Sabres look for a rare road victory against the Capitals on Friday night as they will send Robin Lehner to the crease to face off against Braden Holtby in what should be an exciting affair in the American capital. Buffalo was dealt a tough blow early in the preseason when it was learned that they would be without Jack Eichel for an extended period of time due to a leg injury and his absence has certainly been felt as this was supposed to be a playoff season for the rebuilding Sabres. However, there is still plenty of time for them to reverse course and if they can get a win on the road here it would certainly be a confidence boost for them against a very good Capitals team.
The Caps meanwhile have been on a tear this season and always seem to win the games they are expected to as they have beaten up on the league’s basement dwellers of late and this is another opportunity for them to lay waste to a Sabres team that is under the .500 mark. Washington has one of the deepest rosters in the NHL and should be considered a Cup threat as they have the offense, defense and goaltending to win a championship and we should see evidence of that again on Friday night.
The Sabres are 8-18 in their last 26 Friday games and 2-5 in their last seven playing on one days rest while the Caps are 9-4 in their last 13 and 5-1 in their last six Friday games. The Caps never seem to overlook anybody and always find ways to win and that continues here at home as they should have no trouble with the Sabres.
