The Line: Washington Capitals -157 / Carolina Hurricanes +143 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Capitals and Hurricanes meet in a battle of former Southeast division rivals at the Verizon Centre in Washington.
The Carolina Hurricanes head into action having split their first three contests with a win, a loss, and an overtime loss which is good enough for four points and they’ll look to add to that total on the road against the Washington Capitals. The Canes’ success this season will stem largely from the play of Cam Ward in the crease and the top line up front and so far both have been playing well which is a good sign for Hurricanes fans. However, the Hurricanes know that heading into the Verizon Centre they’ll have to be on their A-Game in the offensive zone and do their best to keep Alex Ovechkin and the Caps offense at bay in the defensive zone. Cam Ward gets the call in the crease for the Canes while the Capitals counter with Braden Holtby.
The Capitals have started off the season having just one victory in three tries but they have had ample opportunity as they can score goals with the best of them, but the problem is being able to keep them out. Braden Holtby, who is vying for the starter’s job for Team Canada for the 2014 Winter Olympics as is his opponent tonight in Cam Ward but through two games so far he has an 0-2 record and a goals against average of 4.47 which has plagued the Capitals chances of winning games. Washington is an offense first type of team but they need to focus on two way hockey at the moment as teams are playing to the counter attack and taking advantage of odd man rushes, and as such they’re giving up more goals than they should be. This is will be a hard fought contest for both teams and while both are competing for starting roster spots I think the offenses take over here and I like the over in this contest as there is just way too much juice on the Caps in this spot.
