The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Capital One Arena to take the ice with the Washington Capitals in Friday NHL action.
The Carolina Hurricanes last ditch effort to make the postseason has hit the wall after a 4-3 defeat at the New Jersey Devils. Phillip Di Giuseppe, Warren Foegele and Noah Hanifin provided the Hurricanes offense and Scott Darling allowed four goals on 45 shots.
Kyle Palmieri topped the Devils attack with a pair of power play tallies with Pavel Zacha and Stefan Noesen also reaching he scoring column. Taylor Hall posted three assists and Will Butcher added two helpers to make the 31 saves of Keith Kinkaid a winner.
The Washington Capitals have been red hot with wins in nine of ten which has helped the team close in on the Metropolitan title. Washington comes off of a 3-2 OT victory versus the Rangers where Kevin Hayes and Ryan Spooner scored for New York and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 30-33 shots.
Andre Burakovsky and Lars Eller scored in regulation for the Capitals with Evgeny Kuznetsov netting the winner 38 seconds in to the extra session. Nicklas Backstrom gave Washington a pair of assists and Braden Holtby picked up the win with 35 saves.
