The Carolina Hurricanes look to steal home ice advantage away from the Washington Capitals as the two sides meet up for a pivotal Game 5 on Saturday.
The Hurricanes look to pull off another road victory at the expense of the Capitals and continue to send shock waves through the NHL playoffs but they will have their work cut out for them here against a Washington side who has seen their series lead evaporate. Carolina has been a pleasant surprise all season long and played their way into the postseason but a show down with the Caps in the opening round left many non-believers thinking it was going to be quick work at the hands of the defending Cup champions. However, the Canes have looked dangerous in these playoffs, even in their two losses, and while a win in Washington is a different beast they are going to have to get one on the road if they’re going to move on to the next round.
The Capitals meanwhile are 13-3 in their last 16 games as a favorite and 5-0 in their last 5 playoff games as a favorite which points in a positive direction for them here as they return home to Capital One Arena for a pivotal matchup on Saturday. The Caps have won 4 games in a row at home against the Hurricanes while the favorite has also won 4 straight in this series which coincides with the home team throughout this series which has gone the way of the home side in every contest so far. Washington will need to get their offense rolling and lean even more so on Alex Ovechkin in this spot if they’re going to regain the series lead and snap their mini 2-game slide.
Carolina is 8-1 in their last 9 Saturday games and 2-5 in their last 7 road games while the Caps are 2-5 in their last 7 Saturday games and 6-2 in their last 8 Conference quarter final games. The Canes and Caps have split the first 4 games and that trend continues as the Capitals are a very tough out at home and playing the puck line might be a solid bet too.
