The Line: Washington Capitals -136 / Colorado Avalanche +124 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The red hot Colorado Avalanche look to keep their undefeated streak going as they head into the Verizon Centre to take on the Capitals.
The surprising Colorado Avalanche, who had the first overall selection in April’s entry draft are playing like anything but a bottom feeder to start the season as they have raced out to a 4-0 start and along with the San Jose Sharks are the only teams without a loss so far this season. While an undefeated mark might be a stretch it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the Avs were projected to be a playoff contender last season before the wheels fell off and they were fortunate enough to land the top spot and selecting franchise forward Nathan Mackinnon to join a forward bunch that already includes Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene, and Paul Stastny. The hiring of Patrick Roy is looking like a genius move at the moment and another victory for the AVs on the road in Washington will really get people talking about the Avs as a possible playoff contender this season.
Washington appeared as though they were back on track with a season opening effort like they had against the Blackhawks and while it came in a losing effort they played quite well and looked like they were back to business. However, the Caps haven’t been able to generate victories as their defensive play and goaltending has been suspect and has forced the Caps into playing from behind. While the offensive balance of the Caps is something the Avs need to take into consideration, Colorado will feel comfortable knowing that former Capitals goaltender Semyon Varlamov will get the nod in the Colorado crease and he will be itching for a big performance. I really like the Avs this season and it may not be much longer before the oddsmakers start shifting things away from Colorado so take advantage while you can. Avs stay undefeated.
