The Colorado Avalanche look to follow up an impressive 4-3 win over the Pitsburgh Penguins last night as they continue their road trip on the road against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.
The Avalanche pulled off an impressive overtime win against the defending Cup champions last night and they will be out for more tonight against a Capitals team that is considered one of the best in the league. Colorado has a very strong offense and some guys that can chip in from the back end and if they can get some solid goaltending out of Semyon Varlamov this season they should be in decent shape against most teams this season and to me they are getting overlooked in the early stages of the season. However, they face a very deep, highly explosive offense of the Capitals that to me are the best teams in the league right now and playing in a back to back is going to be tough for the Avs in this one.
The Capitals are looking for another successful build during the regular season and finally find a way to get through the road block in the postseason as they have the personnel to be a Stanley Cup champion. Washington is coming off another premature exit but they have a lot of great pieces back and are loaded across the board at every position and have finally solved the one problem that has held them back for years: a solid goaltender. Braden Holtby is coming off one of the best seasons in NHL history and is the reigning Vezina winner and he will be called on to lead the team once again as they do battle with some of the league’s best teams in the Metro division.
The Avs are 0-7 in their last seven Tuesday games and 5-2 in their last seven in a 3-4 set while the Caps are 8-3 in their last 11 Tuesday games and 39-15 in their last 54 home games. The AVs are a team I like moving forward and we will get our day when we can score big on their value but it isn’t tonight. Capitals cruise.
