The Capital One Arena and the Washington Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets in Friday NHL action.
The Columbus Blue Jackets need a change in direction with just three wins in the last ten contests. Columbus has struggled to score in this stretch and that trend continued in a 3-2 defeat versus the Washington Capitals on Tuesday in the first game of their Home-and-Home set.
Washington picked up a badly needed win Tuesday and will look to sweep the Blue Jackets at home. The Capitals lead the Metropolitan but haven’t been consistent at either end of the ice since the first week in January but their goaltending came through at Columbus Tuesday.
The Blue Jackets led 1-0 in the first on a David Savard goal and trailed 2-1 before a Brandon Dubinsky tally evened the score in the third. John Carlson scored in the first for the Caps and Tom Wilson lit the lamp in the second before Nicklas Backstrom’s marker with 43 seconds left made a winner of Braden Holtby and his 37 saves while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 shots in defeat.
Blue Jackets are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record and Blue Jackets are 0-4 in their last 4 overall and Blue Jackets are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Capitals are 6-0 in their last 6 in the second game of a home-and-home situation and under is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 in the second game of a home-and-home situation and over is 7-1 in Capitals last 8 vs. a team with a winning record. Blue Jackets are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings and Blue Jackets are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Washington and under is 3-1-3 in the last 7 meetings in Washington.
Neither team has been playing well enough to deserve anything but a small wager but I’ll back Washington for now…
