The Dallas Stars head to the Verizon Center to take the ice with the Washington Capitals in NHL hockey on Monday.
The Dallas Stars were one of the best teams in hockey a year ago but as they say, that was then and this is now. Part of the problem has been the Stars road struggles so it was a really good night when the team picked up a 2-1 win at Florida on Saturday that ended a six game road slide. John Klingberg was the Stars offensive hero with his tally with just 1:07 remaining in regulation with Jamie Benn also lighting the lamp. Tyler Seguin added a pair of helpers to help Kari Lehtonen and his monster 41 saves to a rare road win for Dallas. The Panthers offense came off the stick of Jonathan Huberdeau while James Reimer recorded 32 stops for slumping Florida who have one victory in their last six contests.
The Philadelphia Flyers had struggled against the Washington Capitals heading in to Saturday’s showdown at the Verizon Center. The Flyers held the potent Capitals in check but never got their own offense in gear leaving them looking at a 2-1, overtime loss and three points behind in the race for the second Wild Card. Sean Couturier scored the lone Philadelphia goal while Steve Mason absorbed the defeat with 22 saves as the Flyers power play went 0-6 with seven shots. Nicklas Backstrom scored the game winner at 3:25 of the extra session with the man advantage with Dimitry Orlov finding the back of the net in regulation to help Braden Holtby and his 31 stops to the win which was number 15 in a row on home ice for the Caps.
The over is 6-0 in Stars last 6 games following a win and the over is 6-0 in Stars last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Stars are 1-7 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The over is 3-0-4 in Capitals last 7 Monday games and the under is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 6-1-1 in Capitals last 8 overall. The Stars are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Washington and the Stars are 14-3 in the last 17 meetings while the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Stars have been dominant at Washington and the over has done well also which is my lean pending goalies…
