The Detroit Red Wings visit the Verizon Center to face the Washington Capitals in NHL hockey action on Thursday.
The Columbus Blue Jackets aren’t the 900 pound gorilla they were several weeks ago so every win seems that more precious. The Blue Jackets came up clutch Wednesday with a 3-2, overtime victory at the Detroit Red Wings. Seth Jones was the Jackets offensive hero with his slap shot hitting the back of the net at 3:22 remaining in the extra session. Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson also lit the lamp and Sergei Bobrovsky picked up the win with a 24 save performance. The Red Wings offense came off the sticks Thomas Vanek and Nick Jensen with Petr Mrazek absorbing the loss with 24 stops.
The high powered Washington Capitals have been scoring and winning and certainly didn’t show signs of slowing on Tuesday night. The Capitals were at the top of their game at both ends of the ice in a 5-0 victory versus the Carolina Hurricanes for win number four in a row. The balanced Washington attack featured goals from Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Brett Connolly, Lars Andersv and Marcus Johansson. Braden Holtby gave the Capitals back to back shutouts with 24 stops while Hurricanes netminder Eddie Lack was charged with the loss as he faced a Caps squad that had scored at least five goals in nine of ten.
The Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and the Red Wings are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference while the under is 5-1-1 in Red Wings last 7 Thursday games. The over is 4-0-3 in Capitals last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and the over is 5-0-4 in Capitals last 9 home games while the over is 1-0-3 in Capitals last 4 overall. The under is 5-0-1 in the last 6 meetings and the Red Wings are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Washington while the Red Wings are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings.
The under and the Capitals have done well in this match up and I lean Washington pending goalies…
