The Line: Washington Capitals -154 / Edmonton Oilers +140 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Edmonton Oilers will look to shake off a frustrating loss in Toronto on Saturday night as they head to Washington to take on the struggling Capitals.
The Oilers have been very competitive for the most part this season as they have held leads against some very good opponents and yet they only have three points to their name with a shootout victory and overtime loss. Edmonton knows that if they’re going to turn things around this season and avoid another losing campaign they need to win close games and have the killer instinct to put teams away when they have the chance. Goaltending continues to be a focal point in Edmonton as opening night starter Devan Dubnyk has struggled mightily thus far and has given up goals in bunches, leaving the position many thought Edmonton would try and upgrade in the offseason up for grabs once again. Dubnyk is slated to start here but I wouldn’t be surprised if they go with Jason Labarbera or Richard Bachman instead.
Washington meanwhile started off well this season as they were competitive in a losing effort to the Blackhawks and then rebounded with a victory but since they have looked awful and there is no rhyme or reason as to why. Washington is very solid up front, have a list of offensive defenseman that can change a game and a goaltender that is competing for the starter’s role for Team Canada in Sochi. Or so we thought. Braden Holtby has been average at best through his first few outings sporting a GAA over four and that is simply unacceptable especially for a team that find so much of its success scoring goals. The Caps will look to rebound here against a deflated Oilers team but I think this game will be very exciting and goals should be a plenty as both teams can light the lamp and seemingly can’t prevent their opponent’s from doing so as well. I am a tad nervous as this seems like a gimme but nonetheless I think we see another high scoring affair.
