The Wild look to make a statement and take down the league leading Capitals after falling short against the Flyers in Philly last night.
The Minnesota Wild suffered a heart breaker in Philadelphia last night as their last ditch effort to tie the game in the dying seconds was foiled thanks to a save of the year candidate from Michal Neuvirth that ultimately enabled the Flyers to hold on for the win. Minny has now lost back to back games since their 6-1 drubbing of the Blackhawks in the Stadium Series game last weekend and things don’t get any easier tonight as they head into the Verizon Center to take on a Capitals side coming off a loss against the Montreal Canadiens. Devan Dubnyk is expected to get the start as Minny looks to improve to 13-13-6 on the road while the Capitals will send Braden Holtby back to the crease after getting pulled against the Habs.
The Washington Capitals haven’t lost a lot of games this season and even fewer have come on home ice which is why it was so surprising to see them drop a game at the Verizon Center against a previously struggling Montreal side but with so many games in the regular season they were due for a stinker. The Caps though have a shot at redemption here and while they are still very much in the driver’s seat to claim the President’s Trophy it is all about improving on a game by game basis and getting set up for a long playoff run that the franchise so desperately needs. The Wild are a good team but this is just a terrible match up as they get a frustrated Caps side playing at home with a Vezina type goalie who was pulled in his last outing. Caps roll.
