Friday NHL action pits the Minnesota Wild against the Washington Capitals.
The Minnesota Wild are still alive for a postseason berth but have dropped seven of nine after a 3-1 loss to visiting Colorado on Tuesday. Zach Parise scored a second period power play goal for Minnesota and Devan Dubnyk gave up two goals on 37 shots to get the loss.
The Avalanche received goals off the sticks of Tyson Barrie in the first and Tyson Jost in the second. Ian Cole added an empty netter in the third and Philipp Grubauer picked up the win for Colorado with a 36 save effort.
The Washington Capitals dropped a 5-4 OT decision to visiting Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Lars Eller, Carl Hagelin, TJ Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored for the Capitals and Braden Holtby allowed five goals on 28 shots.
Nikita Kucherov scored twice for the Lightning with Anthony Cirelli and Steven Stamkos hitting the back of the net. Victor Hedman netted the overtime winner and Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded 54 saves to get the win for Tampa Bay.
Wild are 5-2 in their last 7 road games and Wild are 4-10 in their last 14 vs. Metropolitan and Wild are 1-5 in their last 6 overall.
Capitals are 8-0 in their last 8 games as a favorite and Capitals are 7-1 in their last 8 vs. Western Conference and Capitals are 9-3 in their last 12 overall.
Wild are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Washington and over is 5-1-2 in the last 8 meetings and under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Washington.
Minnesota has been losing with a playoff spot on the line and then go on the road to face a Washington squad that has lost twice to Tampa Bay this week. I don’t think the Capitals will be in a good mood…
