The Canadiens look to pull off the unthinkable and take down the league leading Capitals in Washington on Wednesday night at the Verizon Center.
The Montreal Canadiens have had a historic fall from grace and have gone from leading the Eastern Conference to a game above .500 and are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs and will need a hell of a finish to even get in contention. The Habs are without the reigning league MVP and will likely not have his services for the rest of the season as Carey Price continues to battle lower body injuries and as such the Canadiens have been the league’s worst team since the middle of November and it isn’t even close. Montreal is 12-16-2 on the road this season and will likely turn to Mike Condon in this one while the Capitals are a very impressive 23-4-2 at home and will look to give Braden Holtby another spectacular effort.
The Capitals continue to set NHL records and with 44 victories this season they are far and away the best team in the standings and have already amassed 92 points in a mere 58 games and look like the lead contender to win the Stanley Cup. Washington is deep across the board and are going to be a very tough out across a seven game series for any team in the league and while they are bound to lose a few more games here and there throughout the rest of the season it just doesn’t seem like it’ll come at home here against the Canadiens. There is no value in this one but a regulation play may be best to cut some of the juice.
