Thursday NHL action pits the Washington Capitals against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Montreal Canadiens stayed in the Wild Card hunt with a 4-2 win versus visiting Tampa Bay on Tuesday for their second straight win. Tampa Bay received a first period goal from Steven Stamkos with Cedric Paquette scoring in the third. Rookie Eddie Pasquale gave up four goals on 41 shots to fall to 1-1.

Nate Thompson, Joel Armia, Arturri Lehkonen and Max Domi provided goals for the Canadiens. Jordie Benn assisted twice for Montreal who received 22 saves from Carey Price.

The Washington Capitals saw their four game winning streak end in a 5-3 loss at Florida on Monday. Evegeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom and Jakub Vrana scored three straight third period goals for Washington. TJ Oshie assisted twice for the Capitals and Pheonix Copley allowed four goals on 33 shots.

The Panthers received first period goals from Frank Vatrano, Jonathan Huberdeau, Vincent Trocheck and Troy Brouwer with Trocheck netting his second on a third period empty netter. Aleksander Barkov posted three helpers for Florida and Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 30 shots to get the win.

Canadiens are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and Canadiens are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and Canadiens are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference.

Capitals are 4-1 in their last 5 overall and Capitals are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and Capitals are 130-62 in their last 192 home games.

Canadiens are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings and under is 17-6-5 in the last 28 meetings in Washington and over is 4-1-2 in the last 7 meetings.

This game is more important to the Canadiens who are tied for the second Wild Card. I’d do something small on Montreal who have to win…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team.
