The Canadiens will look for their second straight victory over the Capitals in Washington when the teams meet up once again at the Verizon Center.
The Canadiens head into tonight’s game as one of the hottest teams in the league having won four straight contests and can jump into third place in the Atlantic division with a victory in this one. Carey Price continues to be no only the Canadiens MVP but one of the best goaltenders in the league as he has an impressive goals against average and save percentage but it’ll be backup Petr Budaj getting the nod in this one as Price gets set for the Maple Leafs on Saturday. Max Pacioretty is quickly emerging as Montreal’s go to option offensively while PK Subban continues to contribute from the point and as an agitator as we saw him get into the head of Sidney Crosby earlier this week. Budaj will go up against Braden Holtby for the Caps who has struggled a bit of late.
The Capitals have quietly pieced together a pretty decent start to the season which validates a very sloppy first couple of weeks and a large part of their success is attributed to Alex Ovechkin who leads the lead in goals scored. Washington does need to find some secondary scoring options as the likes of Joel Ward and Martin Erat have gone quiet and they’ll look to find someone tonight as they catch Montreal starting their backup. While I like the Canadiens as the deeper team I just don’t see them beating the Caps twice in Washington and I see this being a look ahead spot for the Habs as they get the Leafs at the Bell Centre on Saturday night. Taking Washington in this one.
