The Devils look to rebound after a tough loss at home to the Winnipeg Jets last night as they take to the road to face off against the Capitals in DC.
The New Jersey Devils are likely in for a tough season this year as they don't have the horses to complete with the best of the Metropolitan division and despite Corey Schneider giving them a chance to win ever night he can't put the puck in the net. The Devils don't have a ton of offensive fire power as we saw last night only managing a single goal against the Jets and now they head into Washington to take on a Capitals team with Cup or bust expectations, one of the best goalies in the league, and a spectacular offense that added TJ Oshie to the fold. Schneider got the call last night against the Jets but will likely be in the crease against tonight as he will face off against Braden Holtby for the Caps.
Washington was a dark horse team to win the East heading into last season's playoffs but a lengthy first round series may have cost them a chance at that title as they simply didn't have the legs to stay with the Rangers and ultimately their season was cut short. The Capitals are however a Cup favourite this season as they went out and added some nice pieces to go alongside an existing core that is very scary and now they are in a position to not only keep pace with the Rangers, Penguins, and Islanders but could very well surpass all of them and get back to winning division titles. The Caps drew a great opponent to open the season as New Jersey will struggle to score goals against anyone let alone Braden Holtby and with Washington's offense I expect them to come out here and paste the Devils with ot without Schneider.
