The Washington Capitals look to stay red hot as they host the New Jersey Devils in a show down of two Metro division teams heading into the playoffs.
The Devils finish off their regular season slate with a matchup against the Washington Capitals and with a victory here they would finish the season with a five game winning streak and go into the postseason as a team to watch out for. These two sides are tentatively slated to face off in the opening round but a lot can change as a result of this game and the rest of the busy slate on Saturday but either way it looks like the Devils will face off with either the Caps or Penguins and will not have an easy go of things in the opening round. New Jersey is expected to send Corey Schneider to the crease here as he will face off against Braden Holtby who has been strong in the Washington crease again this season.
The Capitals meanwhile wrapped up the Metro division last week and have a chance to create a bit more separation as they are playing some of their best hockey of the season thanks to an 11-3 stretch in their last 14 contests. Washington has dominated this series and are 13-3 in the last 16 meetings with the Devils and with both teams already clinching a playoff spot and this one not really meaning a whole lot you might expect both sides to take it easy here. However, as mentioned, this could be a potential first round matchup and gaining a psychological edge could be in mind for both teams.
The Devils are 6-0 in their last six Saturday games and 4-1 in their last five against the Metro while the Caps are 50-20 in their last 7- home games and 4-0 in their last four Saturday games. This should be an exciting contest and while the Devils have been playing well I don’t see this ending too well for them as the Caps are the better team and make a statement.
