The New York Islanders look to build on their big win against the Penguins as they skate into the Verizon Center to square off with the Washington Capitals.
The Isles netted a big win against the defending champions last night in a game they almost let get away from them, but in the end it was a 5-3 final and a boost of confidence for a team that desperately needs it. However, their reward isn’t too appealing as they head into the Verizon Center to face off against another Eastern Conference powerhouse as the Caps have gotten off to a very good start and will be out to prove their worth against the Isles in this spot. Jaroslav Halak is expected to get the nod after Thomas Greiss started last night and he will face off against Braden Holtby who is coming off a Vezina Trophy season last year and is playing like it once again this season.
The Capitals had their Cup dreams squashed last season but are right in the mix once again this year and should be treated as such during the regular season where they always seem to have one of the best records by season’s end. Washington is deep across the board and have plenty of fire power in all three facets of the game and while the Islanders got a big win against the Pens last night I think they will be in tough on the road in a back to back against a team as strong as the Caps.
New York is 1-4 in their last five playing in a back to back and 1-9 in their last 10 road games while the Caps are 1-4 in their last five against the Metro and 46-18 in their last 64 home games. The Caps have too much fire power here and catch the Isles in a back to back and they should cruise to an easy win.
