The Capitals look to rebound after getting pasted by the Panthers their last time out as they welcome the Islanders to town on Thursday.
The New York Islanders look to make up some ground with a win on the road in DC on Thursday night as they face off against the Eastern Conference leading Capitals and with a win they can jump back into second place in the very tight Metro division. The Isles hold a one point edge on the Penguins and Devils for third and with second place through seventh as close as seven points it is going to come down to the wire to see what teams get in automatically and which are going to have to battle for a wild card spot with the Atlantic. New York is 10-8-3 on the road this season and face off against a Caps side that will have Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby back in action.
The Capitals look to extend their lead atop the league standings as they hold a two point cushion on the Blackhawks and a nine point edge on the Panthers for top spot in the East. Washington is loaded with talent at both ends of the ice but they are coming off a loss against the Panthers in a game where Ovechkin had to sit out thanks to his absence at the all-star game and they should get HOltby back in who was on the bench in favour of Phillip Grubauer on Tuesday. The Caps are a tough team to beat in general and even more so at the Verizon Center and while the Islanders should put up a good fight I think they addition of the two stars for Washington makes the difference.
