The Line: Washington Capitals -216 / New York Islanders +193 --- Over/Under: 5.5
Friday NHL action brings us to the Capital One Arena where the New York Islanders lock horns with the Washington Capitals.
The New York Islanders have suffered through a long season which will have no postseason so the goal is to finish the year playing well. New York ended an eight game slide with a 5-2 victory at Calgary where the Flames saw Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano score while Mike Smith gave up four goals on 26 shots.
Anders Lee led the Islanders offense with a pair of tallies with Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk and Jordan Eberle also joining the scoring column. Boychuk, Casey Cizkas and John Tavares gave New York two assists each to make the monster 50 save effort of Christopher Gibson a winner.
The Washington Capitals are still clinging to the top spot in the Metropolitan with the Pittsburgh Penguins breathing down their necks. Washington has won consecutive contests following a 3-2 OT decision versus the Winnipeg Jets on Monday.
Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine scored for Winnipeg while Alex Ovechkin scored twice in regulation for the Capitals. Evgeny Kuznetov scored at 4:11 of the extra session for the Capitals who received 26 saves from Philipp Grubauer while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 40 shots.
Over is 6-0 in Islanders last 6 in the second game of a home-and-home situation and under is 5-0 in Islanders last 5 vs. Metropolitan and Islanders are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. Under is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 overall and over is 4-1 in Capitals last 5 vs. Metropolitan and under is 4-1 in Capitals last 5 vs. a team with a losing record. Home team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Islanders are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Washington.
I have been saying the Capitals are far from a sure thing and I am not changing my tune so I’ll throw this out there for a pick…
