The Islanders look to build on their big win at home over the Lightning last night as they face off against the league leading Capitals in DC.
The New York Islanders head into the Verizon Center on Tuesday night to face off with the best team in the league in a show down with the Capitals and with a win tonight the Isles can clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Islanders took down the Lightning at home last night in a convincing 5-2 final and head into this one sitting in the top wild card spot and are four points clear of the Flyers with only four games remaining. Thomas Greiss will likely get another start in the Islanders crease as he will face off against Braden Holtby who is aiming to set an NHL record for wins in a season by a goaltender.
The Washington Capitals have been the class of the NHL all season long and are the odds on favourites to win the Stanley Cup this season as they have so much depth at both ends of the rink and a goaltender who is having a Vezina type season. The Caps are a ridiculous 55-17-6 this season and have 116 points with four games remaining which has them on pace to eclipse the 120 point mark which in this day in age is absolutely absurd to think of. The Capitals are 29-7-2 at home this season and while the Islanders have been very good at the Barclay’s Center they haven’t been nearly as strong on the road and could be in big trouble here. However, with this being a huge game for New York and meaningless for the Caps I think the Isles show up and if they’re going to keep this one close it’ll have to be tightly contested in the defensive zone. This one stays under.
