The Line: Washington Capitals / New York Rangers --- Over/Under:
The New York Rangers go on the road to take the ice with the Washington Capitals in Friday NHL action.
The New York Rangers have been red hot for two weeks where both the offense and defense have contributed. New York has won six of seven after downing the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on the road on Tuesday. The Penguins offense saw scoring from Conor Sheary, Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist but Tristan Jarry was charged with all four goals on 29 shot.
The balance Rangers attack proved to be too much with scoring coming from Boo Nieves, Jesper Fast, Mats Zuccarello and Pavel Buchnevich. Ondrej Pavelic picked up the win for New York with a 41 save performance in place of flu ridden Henrik Lundqvist. Altogether, eleven Rangers managed to record points.
It has taken awhile but the Washington Capitals have begun to show signs of reverting to last season’s for mwhere the team forged the best record in hockey. Both ends of the ice have been producing and the results have the team winning six of seven following a 6-2 rout of the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night. The Blackhawks saw goals from Lance Bouma and Jonathan Toews but Anton Forsberg was taken out after allowing three goals with JF Berube allowing three more the rest of the way.
Tom Wilson led he Capitals offensive assault with a pair of goals and two helpers while Alex Ovechkin scored and added three assists. Niklas Backstrom also gave the Caps a goal and two helpers while Evgeny Kuznetsov and Brett Connolly added goals to make an easy winner of Braden Holtby who recorded 37 stops.
Over is 5-0-1 in Rangers last 6 games playing on 2 days rest and under is 3-0-1 in Rangers last 4 Friday games and over is 3-0-1 in Rangers last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Capitals are 6-1 in their last 7 overall and Capitals are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record and Capitals are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. Under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings and under is 23-8-4 in the last 35 meetings in Washington.
Both squads are rolling and I know the under has been the bet in this matchup but I am leaning over or Washington with Lundqvist sick…
