The Rangers look to stay red hot and upend a division foe for the second time in as many nights as they head into DC to take on the Capitals.
The Rangers have had an incredible three quarter stretch this season as they have gone from being a middle of the pack team running the risk of missing the playoffs to sitting a point back of the Isles for the division lead and with 17 games left in the regular season and Henrik Lundqvist slated to return soon it'll be interesting to see just how far this team can go. The Blue Shirts have relied a ton on the offense of Rick Nash but he is certainly not the only contributor in this group and with the playoff run the team had last season that saw them reach the Stanley Cup final they could very well be in a position to repeat that feat this time around. There is still no timetable for Lundqvist's return though it is probably before the end of the regular season and until then expect Cam Talbot to keep getting the call even in back to back situations.
The Capitals meanwhile look to keep pace with the rest of the group in the Metro division as they trail the Isles by eight points for the division lead but their 82 points has them with a firm grip on a wild card spot and within striking distance of the Pens for third place. Washingotn has had a nice season under Barry Trotz and the statistical output of Alex Ovechkin and Nick Backstrom has been incredible but they will be in for a tough matchup in the opening round of the playoffs regardless of if they can move up in the Metro division standings and the questions on their blue line may begin to surface. Braden Holtby has had one of the better seasons that no one is talking about this season and he certainly gives his team a chance to win every night and against the Rangers here he will have to be sharp. This is going to be an awesome game to watch and while I am still waiting on the line to come out it is hard to bet against the Rangers right now. I will likely stay away from this one and just watch as a fan.
