The Line: Washington Capitals -110 / New York Rangers -110 --- Over/Under: 5
The Washington Capitals look to wrap up their series with the New York Rangers at home in game six.
The Washington Capitals have played the Rangers tough but found it tougher to eliminate New York Friday night in a 2-1, overtime defeat. It was another low scoring affair and the Capitals appeared to be on the verge of advancing with a late 1-0 lead but the Rangers rose to the occasion and have the Caps in a precarious position with a 3-2 series lead with a dangerous opponent looking to even the series at the Verizon Center Sunday and force a deciding game number seven. Much ado has been made of the Rangers lack of scoring but Washington didn’t light up the scoreboard either with their lone goal coming off the stick of Curtis Glencross in the third. Braden Holtby was a rock in the nets with 41 saves but his offense couldn’t finish the job.
The New York Rangers are getting a ton of bad press about their lack of production at the offensive end and they once again struggled to score in game number five but some of the credit has to go to Caps netminder Braden Holtby who faced a 43 shot barrage so the Rangers put some rubber on the net. New York had a bit of flare for the dramatic with Chris Kreider’s one timer beat Holtby with only 1:41 remaining in regulation to force the extra session. Ryan McDonaugh kept the Rangers season alive with his tally at 9:37 of OT to send the crowd at Madison Square Garden in to a frenzy and put some immediate pressure on Washington who want to win in game six and avoid a return to New York for a game seven. Henrik Lundqvist remained strong between the pipes with a 28 save effort to get the win.
The under is 5-0-1 in Rangers last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and is 6-0-1 in Rangers last 7 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while going 6-0-1 in Rangers last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Capitals are 5-0 in their last 5 home games with the under going 4-0-1 in Capitals last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and 6-0-1 in Capitals last 7 overall. The home team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the under is 19-4-3 in the last 26 meetings in Washington and 29-13-11 in the last 53 meetings. No lines out but once again this looks like another low scoring affair…
