Capital One Arena and the Washington Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers in Sunday NHL action.
The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the hottest teams in the game with wins in seven of nine where both ends of the ice contributed to the success. Philadelphia comes off of a 3-1 victory versus the visiting New Jersey Devils on Saturday. The Devils lone goal came from Jesper Bratt on the PP in the second on assists by Will Butcher and Taylor Hall.
Philadelphia exploded with a three goal first period that feature scoring from Travis Konecny, Valtteri Filppula and Ivan Provorov with Konecny adding an assist. Michal Neuvirth improved to 7-4-2 with 28 saves to keep the Flyers hot. Keith Kinkaid allowed three goals on seven shots for New Jersey before Ken Appleby came on in relief to stop 24 shots.
The Washington Capitals are a familiar sight atop the Metropolitan but the team is not playing well with losses in three of four after winning five straight. Washington comes off of a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Friday. The Capitals received goals from John Carlson on the PP in the second and Lars Eller in the third.
Max Pacioretty paced the Canadiens attack with a second period power play goal and an empty net tally while Paul Byron also lit the lamp. Antti Niemi picked up the win for the Canadiens with 26 stops while Phillip Grubauer absorbed the loss with 23 saves to fall to 4-6-3.
