The Washington Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Wednesday NHL tilt.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were denied a third consecutive win in a 4-2 loss to visiting Anaheim on Monday. Pittsburgh led 2-0 on first period goals by Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust while Casey DeSmith gave up three goals on 35 shots to get the loss.
Adam Henrique, Kiefer Sherwood and Ondrej Kase scored in a three goal Anaheim second with Ryan Getzlaf hitting the empty net in the third. Getzlaf and Henrique also had assists and John Gibson picked up the win for the Ducks with 28 saves.
The surging Washington Capitals have racked up five straight wins after a 4-3 SO victory versus visiting Buffalo on Saturday. Jack Eichel scored twice for Buffalo with Rasmus Dahlin adding a power play marker. Dahlin and Sam Reinhart added two helpers each and Casey Mittlestadt score in the SO for the Sabres who saw Carter Hutton stop 35 shots.
Brett Connolly, Jakub Vrana and Alex Ovechkin scored in regulation for Washington. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ovechkin tallied in the shootout for the Capitals who received 26 saves from Phoenix Copley.
