The Penguins look to follow up their spectacular effort against the Coyotes last night as they head into DC to battle the league leading Capitals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins got a big time victory at home last night against the Arizona Coyotes in a game where their offense, that has garnered a ton of attention for their lack of production this season, went off for six goals. The Pens were preseason darlings after acquiring Phil Kessel from the Toronto Maple Leafs to go alongside Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Chris Kunitz but the move hasn’t had the effect many anticipated and as such the Penguins haven’t been as relevant as many anticipated. However, a second half run has them in a position to qualify for the playoffs and an underperforming team in the second season is a very dangerous group as they feel like they have a second shot at proving their worth.
The Capitals meanwhile have been in cruise control for the better part of a month and have been the team to beat in the Eastern Conference basically since Halloween and are certainly a Cup favourite to say the least. Washington has been in this position before where they have a great regular season only to fall short come playoff time and that mantra has followed Alex Ovechkin throughout his career, but this group appears to be different as they have a balanced attack and great goaltending which they haven’t had before. The Caps are going to be favoured against almost anyone the rest of the season, especially at home, but this should be a great game. With the Pens in a back to back and this game meaning so much I think the total is the play and the under should come in without difficulty
