Round two NHL playoff action continues at Capital One Arena where the Washington Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins in game two.
The Washington Capitals have had their share of problems with the Pittsburgh Penguins and that trend continued in a 3-2 defeat on home ice Thursday in the series opener. Washington appeared to be in control with a 2-0 lead in the third before Pittsburgh came roaring back with three straight goals.
The Capitals took a 1-0 lead just 17 seconds in to the opening period on an Evgeny Kuznetsov tally before Alex Ovechkin doubled the advantage 28 seconds in to the third. Ovechkin also added an assist and Tom Wilson gave Washington a pair of helpers while Braden Holtby took the loss with three goals scoring on 25 shots.
The Penguins saw scoring off the sticks of Patric Hornqvist and Sydney Crosby with Jake Guentzel potting the winner. Guentzel completed a three point performance with two assists with Crosby and Hornqvist also posting helpers. Pittsburgh received 32 stops from Matt Murray who improved to 5-2 in the postseason.
