The Line: Washington Capitals -115 / Pittsburgh Penguins +100 --- Over/Under: 5.5
NHL playoff action comes to DC where the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Washington Capitals.
While many have predicted this is the year that the Washington Capitals finally get by Pittsburgh, the Penguins aren’t going down easily after a 3-1 victory evened their series 2-2 on Thursday. Matt Murray and the Pitt defense saved the team from a 3-1 series hole heading back to Washington for game five and possible elimination.
The Capitals never got their offense going with only 21 shots on goal with TJ Oshie being the lone bright spot with a second period power play goal on assists from Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznesov. Braden Holtby gave Washington 21 stops to absorb the loss and drop to 6-2-1 in the postseason.
The Penguins opened the scoring at 9:21 of the second on a Jake Guentzel tally with Evgeni Malkin lighting the lamp with the man advantage at 17:31 for a 2-1 lead heading to the third.
Guentzel added his second on another power play on the empty net with 58 seconds remaining after the Capitals were penalized for too many men on the ice. Sydney Crosby posted a pair of assists to make the 20 save performance of Matt Murray a winner.
Under is 2-0-2 in Penguins last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 3-0-2 in Penguins last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 3-0-2 in Penguins last 5 games following a win. Over is 7-1 in Capitals last 8 Saturday games and under is 6-1 in Capitals last 7 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Capitals are 6-2 in their last 8 overall. Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Washington and under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
This has been a tough series to get a handle on and I think the Capitals have to bounce back on home ice. I’m leaning to the Penguins team total however and will update…
