The Washington Capitals play for their playoff lives on Saturday night as they welcome the Penguins to the Verizon Center for game five.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dominant through the first four games of their second round series show down with their archrivals from DC and with three wins in four tries they are in a great spot to pull off the upset and send the President’s Trophy winners home early. The Pens have ridden the exceptional play of Matt Murray and used a balanced attack to put the Caps on their heels in what could be another playoff disappointment for a group that looked as though this was going to be the year they broke through and challenge for the Stanley Cup. Murray is expected to get the start once again here for Pittsburgh as he will face off against Braden Holtby who was recently named one of the Ted Lindsay finalists as MVP as voted on by the players.
The Capitals are facing an all to familiar scene heading into Saturday night’s game and will have to win three games in a row against a solid Penguins side if they’re going to avoid another playoff disappointment. Washington had a remarkable regular season and put up some ridiculous numbers but are a single loss away from having all of it mean nothing as they trail 3-1 and will need to grab a win on the road if they’re going to get back in the series. While I think the Penguins do ultimately get the win and send Washington packing I don’t see it happening in DC as Washington shows up in a big way at home and keep their season alive.
