The Washington Capitals look to continue their recent success against the Tampa Bay Lightning as the two Eastern Conference powers meet up in DC on Tuesday night.
The Bolts look to make a statement with a road victory against the Capitals on Tuesday night as two of the league’s best face off at the Verizon Center, though this has been a pretty one sided rivalry of late as the Capitals have absolutely dominated with a 35-16 record in their last 51 meetings. Tampa Bay has a ton of offensive fire power and do catch the Capitals in the back end of a double header after a road win last night against the Sabres, and they may face off with Philipp Grubauer here which is no easy feat but a tad better than seeing Braden Holtby. The Bolts are 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games but the Caps return home after a lengthy road trip and they will surely be fired up to give their home fans something to cheer about.
The Capitals meanwhile are coming off a successful road trip but they will have to avoid a let down spot in their first home game in over a week as they welcome the Lightning to town in what should be a very entertaining contest. The Caps are led by Alex Ovechkin and company and once again they are right in the mix for top spot in the Eastern Conference but until they can finally break through their playoff drought they will be considered an afterthought as they have always fallen short of even the Conference finals. Washington is 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and have been red hot at home but goaltending matchups will determine what this line will look like come puck drop.
The Lightning are 47-22 in their last 69 overall and 16-35 in their last 51 meetings against the Caps while Washington is 43-17 in their last 60 home games and 63-21 in their last 84 against the Atlantic. Tampa is the better team here but there is a ton of evidence to back the Capitals here and what should be a nice price they are the play.
