The Line: Washington Capitals / Tampa Bay Lightning --- Over/Under:
The Tampa Bay Lighting and Washington Capitals meet Monday for game six of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals at the Capital One Arena.
The Tampa Bay Lighting can advance to their second Stanley Cup Final in the last four years with a victory here. The Tampa Bay Lighting are averaging 3.5 goals per game and are scoring on 23.9 percent of their power play opportunities. Nikita Kucherov leads Tampa Bay with seven goals, Victor Hedman has 10 assists and Tyler Johnson has 39 shots on goal. Defensively, the Tampa Bay Lighting are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 76.1 percent of their opponents power plays. Andrei Vasilevskiy has given up 36 goals on 439 shots faced and Louis Domingue has allowed zero goals on seven shots. The Tampa Bay Lighting have allowed three or less goals in seven of their last nine games.
The Washington Capitals need a victory here in order to save their season and force a game seven on Wednesday. The Washington Capitals are averaging 3.1 goals per game and are scoring on 22.5 percent of their power play opportunities. Evgeny Kuznetsov leads Washington with 11 goals, John Carlson has 12 assists and Alex Ovechkin has 69 shots on goal. Defensively, the Washington Capitals are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 80.3 percent of their opponents power plays. Braden Holtby has given up 34 goals on 409 shots faced and Philipp Grubauer has allowed eight goals on 49 shots. The Washington Capitals have allowed three or more goals in six of their last nine games.
The Lightning are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win, 37-18 in their last 55 road games and 73-34 in their last 107 overall. The Capitals are 25-8 in their last 33 Monday games 93-41 in their last 134 home games and 22-10 in their last 32 overall. The Lightning are 18-37 in the last 55 meetings in Washington, the road team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and the over is 20-8-4 in the last 32 meetings.
The Washington Capitals have lost complete control of this series since stealing two on the road, as they've allowed a combined 11 goals in their last three games and just lost a game despite getting eight more shot attempts. The Capitals and their fans have be saying here we go again, as this sports city has become numb to coming up short in the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Lighting are an experienced club that sees blood in the water and knows how to finish series' when it has the chance. I'd love to see a game seven, but I'm not sure how you can pick the Capitals here with any sort of confidence. The Lightning have all of the momentum and any sort of quick start in this game could led to an ugly, ugly contest for the home team.
