Saturday NHL action brings us a bout between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the hottest teams to begin the season after running their record to 4-1 with a 5-3 victory at Detroit. Nick Jensen paced the Red Wings with two goals with Dylan Larkin also lighting the lamp while Jimmy Howard was charged with four goals on 34 shots.
The Maple Leafs received a pair of goals from Auston Matthews with Morgan Rielly, Mitch Marner and Ron Hainsey all finding the back of the net. John Tavares posted four assists and Frederik Andersen stopped 26 shots to get the win for Toronto.
The Washington Capitals have alternated good performances with bad performances and it was all bad on Thursday in a 6-0 defeat at New Jersey. Capitals goalie Phoenix Copley was burned for all six goals on 36 shots in dropping his debut.
Kyle Palmieri scored two times for the Devils with Marcus Johansson, Blake Coleman, Jean-Sebastian Dea and Brian Boyle also lighting the lamp to make an easy winner of Keith Kinkaid and his 21 saves.
Under is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 games following a win and over is 9-1-1 in Maple Leafs last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Over is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and Capitals are 6-0 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and under is 2-0-2 in Capitals last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Maple Leafs are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings and Maple Leafs are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings in Washington.
Washington is not an easy team to back with dramatic swings in their performances but I believe we see a rebound on Saturday…
