The Maple Leafs continue their downward spiral with a road trip to DC on Sunday as they take on a Caps team competing for a playoff spot.
The Maple Leafs have been an absolute train wreck this season and with the playoffs a complete after thought at this point and many players already out the door it'll be interesting to see if and who will be on this team come Tuesday evening. The Buds are in full blown tank mode and are hoping for a top end draft pick as the rebuild is on the horizon and while guys like Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk, Nazem Kadri, and Morgan Rielly will likely stay put it leaves plenty of others open to movement including Jonathan Bernier and Tyler Bozak. The Buds are coming off a shutout loss to the Canadiens in Montreal last night and things don't get any easier as they take on a Caps team at home coming off three straight losses and looking to get back in the playoff race.
The Capitals have picked an inopportune time to drop three straight games and as such they are now in fourth place in the Metro and laying claim to a wild card spot but they get a great matchup against against the slumping Maple Leafs. Toronto has been dreadful since Christmas and with a coaching change and players moving addresses already in the books it opens them up more here as they are a broken team playing against a desperate team looking to make a playoff run. Washington ate heavy favorites here but I don't think this one will be close as Braden Holtby should have his way with the blue and white.
