The Toronto Maple Leafs visit the DC to face the Washington Capitals in Saturday NHL action.

The Toronto Maple Leafs a third in the Atlantic with the postseason fast approaching. Toronto has been red hot for weeks but has dropped back to back contests following a 3-2, OT loss at Florida where Dominic Moore and Zach Hyman supplied second period goals.

Aleksander Barkov gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first with a power play tally with Jonathan Huberdeau doubling the lead in the second. Jared McCann scored the winner in the extra session and Vincent Trocheck added a pair of helpers for Florida to make a winner of Roberto Luongo and his 37 stops while Curtis McElhinney made 28 saves in defeat.

The Washington Capitals are still holding on to the lead in the Metropolitan despite being unable to string wins together. Washington will get a crack at consecutive victories after downing Ottawa 3-2 Mike Hoffman and Erik Karlsson scored for the Senators.

The Capitals received a pair of tallies off the stick of Evgeny Kuznetsov with Tom Wilson also finding the back of the net. Washington received a pair of assists from Matt Niskanen to make a winner of Philipp Grubauer on his 28 saves while Mike Condon made 19 stops in defeat.

Maple Leafs are 5-0 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 6-0 in Maple Leafs last 6 vs. a team with a winning record and Maple Leafs are 6-1 in their last 7 games playing on 3 or more days rest. Over is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest and Capitals are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and Capitals are 0-4 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and Maple Leafs are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Washington.

I am still a little leery of backing the Capitals and if I were to bet this I might do something small on the under…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
