The Canucks look to stay red hot and take down another division leader as they head into Washington to battle the Capitals.
The Canucks continued their winning ways of late with a big overtime victory over the Florida Panthers that snapped their 12 game winning streak and gave former goaltender Roberto Luongo his first loss in ages. Vancouver will look to extend their winning streak and improve to 7-2-1 in their last 10 contests as they head into the Verizon Center to battle the Capitals who lead the NHL standings with 67 points in 42 contests and at this point look like a shoe in to not only make the playoffs but to go on a deep run at that. Vancouver is just 8-8-6 on the road this season but if they had a couple of bounces go their way they would be in pretty good shape as they have lost a lot of close games and perhaps deserve a better fate than they currently have.
The Capitals meanwhile have been ridiculous to watch this season as they are 32-7-3 this season and are by far and away the best team in the Eastern Conference and certainly in the conversation as the favourite to win the Stanley Cup. Washington has a nice balance of offense and defense which is of course led by Mr. 500 plus in Alex Ovechkin who continues to prove he is one of the best in the world and this season looks as good as any for he and the Caps to shake off their past playoff futility. Washington is a tough team to bet against right now and while the Canucks are coming off slaying the Panthers I think they get dealt a hard dose here as the Caps get another win.
