The Washington Nationals and Vegas Golden Knights take the ice in game four of the Stanley Cup finals in Monday NHL action.
The Vegas Golden Knights have defied the odds in their inaugural season but the team faces adversity for the first time in the postseason after a 3-1 loss at Washington in game three has the team trailing 2-1 in the series with game four scheduled for Monday.
The Vegas offense came off the stick of Tomas Nosek at 3:29 of the third with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare getting the assist that cut the Golden Knights deficit to 2-1. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed three goals on 26 shots to absorb the loss for Vegas.
The Washington Capitals long suffering fan base are all smiles after Saturday’s home victory has the team looking at back to back wins and the series lead. Washington was strong at both ends of the ice which has the team heading to game four with a chance to take a 3-1 series advantage.
The Capitals took a 1-0 lead on an Alex Ovechkin tally just 70 seconds in to period two with Evgeny Kuznetsov doubling the advantage at 12:50 for the eventual winner.
Devante Smith-Pelly found the back of the net at 13:53 of the third period to give the Caps a bit of breathing room down the stretch. Washington received a pair of helpers from Jay Beagle with Kuznetsov also logging an assist. Braden Holtby was stellar in the nets for Washington with a 22 save performance.
Under is 4-1-1 in Golden Knights last 6 road games and under is 4-1-1 in Golden Knights last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and Golden Knights are 5-0 in their last 5 Monday games. The Capitals can really put the pressure on the Golden Knights with another win on Monday and with their ability to score and defend I’m looking their way…
