The Chicago Blackhawks head into Winnipeg looking for their third straight victory while the Jets look to avoid losing their third straight.
The Blackhawks are once again the cream of the crop in the NHL standings as they sit just three points back of the Colorado Avalanche in the Central division as they sport an 8-2-3 mark and are 3-1-1 on the road this season. Heading into Winnipeg will be another tough test for the Hawks as the Jets who despite having a tough start to the year always seem to get themselves up for big games at home. Chicago has a stellar roster led by Winnipeg native Jonathan Toews who will certainly look to step up his game to another level in this homecoming affair in which I’m sure a whole section of Toews’ supports will be on deck. Corey Crawford gets the nod for the Hawks will Ondrej Pavelec gets the call for the Jets.
Winnipeg as mentioned is having a lackluster start to the year and some are even calling for Head Coach Claude Noel’s job if they can’t turn things around and for a Jets team that has a pretty solid roster perhaps that is the best medicine. The Jets are last in the Central with a 5-7-2 mark and for a team that is usually unbeatable at home they are a modest 3-4-1 at the MTS Centre and that is a huge reason why they only have 12 points this season. However, the Jets seem to step up their play when they host some of the big dogs in the league and they always have one statement victory at home that gets the monkey off their backs. Two years ago they handed the red hot Washington Capitals a loss at the MTS Centre and then last year they dealt the same fate to the Bruins so it is possible I just don’t know if they can do it against a very deep Chicago team. Despite this being Toews’ return I like the fact that Dustin Byfuglien is very familiar with his former team and I think he makes enough of a difference to give Winnipeg a much needed victory.
