The Bell MTS Centre and the Winnipeg Jets host the Chicago Blackhawks in a Thursday NHL matchup.
The Chicago Blackhawks have been sleepwalking through some of the early season schedule and it’s been a question of when the team will wake up and string some wins together. Perhaps the time has arrived with the team winning three in a row after a come from behind 3-2, overtime victory versus the visiting Florida Panthers on Tuesday night.
The Panthers saw scoring from Nick Bjugstad and Jamie McGinn and never trailed until the final horn. Patrick Kane was the Blackhawks star with his game winner coming at 2:24 of the extra session while Brandon Saad and Jonathan Toews scored in regulation. Alex Debrincat added two assists and Saad also logged a helper to make Corey Crawford’s 35 saves a winner for Chicago.
The Winnipeg Jets will be at the MTS Bell Centre for the second straight game when the Chicago Blackhawks come to town on Thursday. Winnipeg ended a three game skid with a one sided 5-1 victory versus the Vancouver Canucks where everything went favorably. Vancouver’s lone bright spot continues to be rookie Brock Boeser who scored his 16th goal in the first while Jacob Markstrom was charged with all five goals on 24 shots.
Mathieu Perreault led the Winnipeg scoring spree with a pair of tallies with Nikolaj Ehlers scoring on the power play. Josh Morrissey and Dmitry Kulikov also found the back of the net and Connor Hellebuyck improved to 16-3-4 with a 25 save performance for the Jets.
Blackhawks are 0-4 in their last 4 Thursday games and under is 4-0 in Blackhawks last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and Blackhawks are 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Over is 4-0 in Jets last 4 overall and over is 6-1 in Jets last 7 games playing on 2 days rest and Jets are 1-4 in their last 5 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Blackhawks are 10-2 in the last 12 meetings in Winnipeg and Blackhawks are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
The Blackhawks have had their way with Winnipeg in recent years but I think an improving Jets squad has a chance…
