The Avalanche look to shake off a disheartening loss in Calgary on Friday night when they head into Winnipeg to take on the Jets at the MTS Centre.
The Colorado Avalanche were in the driver's seat in their road game in Calgary last night as they had the Flames against the ropes a number of times but ultimately it was Calgary who stormed back and stole the second point from the Avs with a 4-3 overtime win. Frustration is starting to set in for the Avs who were the Central division champions last season and so far this year they have struggled and are 9-11-6 on the year and sit in sixth place in the division. The Avs are happy to have Semyon Varlamov back in the crease but they will likely give way to Reto Berra tonight as Calvin Pickard was the odd man out last night and against a fresh Jets team who is tough to play at home this could be another long night for the Avs. Berra will go up against Mike Hutchinson for the Jets who has been spectacular in relief of Ondrej Pavelec this season and would love to replicate that success once again in this one.
The Jets have been a nice story so far this year as they look to finally break through and grab a playoff spot in the Western Conference and at the moment they sit in fourth place in the division with a 13-9-4 mark. Winnipeg does have its share of distractions as Evander Kane is one to never shy away from the lime light but the team has been able to rally around a solid top line and a back end that remains underrated but if they're going to make the jump into the playoffs they'll need to find another source of offense as their secondary unit has been putrid. Winnipeg though is a team I like very much in terms of their pedigree and balance and I think they are a playoff caliber team despite the competition in the Central division and they need to make a statement here and on home ice I think they get it done in a big way.
