The Blue Jackets head into Winnipeg on Thursday night looking to escape the Metro division basement while the home side aims to shake off a loss and get back in the race in the Central.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have gone from bad to worse over the last couple of days as their starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky will be sidelined for at least three weeks with an injury leaving the team's turn around in the hands of career backup Curtis McElhinney. The Jackets had high hopes coming into this season but things have gone up in flames so far as they sit in dead last in the NHL alongside a few others with a measly 24 points and aren't showing any signs of turning things around. The Jackets do have a bit of a lieu period at least when it comes to administration as John Tortorella was brought in after the first two weeks of the season and while he can be a little on edge he does have a decent track record and could be the right fit to get this team fired up.
The Jets meanwhile have also struggled to start the year as they sit in sixth place in the Central and are just four points better than the Jackets and in the crazy competitive Central division they are going to be hard pressed to make the playoffs if they can't right the ship soon. The Jets are 5-5 in their last 10 overall but are 7-4-1 at home this season and while they are typically much better at the MTS Centre than this season's mark indicates they are still winning games in Winnipeg and should do so again here. The Jets need a big time victory to get rolling and a home date against a struggling Jackets side is the recipe for success.
