The Stars look for their second win in a row North of the border as they head into Winnipeg to take on the Jets who have lost back to back games.
The Dallas Stars had one of their best games of the season offensively in their last outing against the Senators as they put up a six-spot and while two of them came via the empty net it was Dallas' game to lose and they didn't relinquish the lead. The Stars have had a disappointing year on the whole but in the second half of the season they will look to turn things around and possibly make a push towards the playoffs but with the West being so competitive their best bet at this point is a wild card spot. The Stars sit just four points back of the Flames for the second wild card spot in the West and know that every game from here on out can have an impact on the playoff picture which makes tonight's game even more important as they take on a Jets team battling to hold on to their playoff spot sitting just six up on the pack. Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the start as he will go up against Ondrej Pavelec.
The Jets have dropped two straight but have still won six of their last 10 and are in a good spot at the moment in the Western Conference playoff picture but the rest of the pack is coming quickly and the Jets know it. Winnipeg has impressed for most of the season and have looked the part of a playoff team in the first half but they need to stay consistent as the season progresses or they'll run the risk of slipping out of the wild card picture and right back on the bubble where they have found themselves since returning back to Winnipeg from Atlanta. Mike Hutchinson to me has been the better of the two goaltenders this season for the Jets but he has struggled in their last two games including the Philadelphia debacle in their last contest so they'll likely turn to Pavelec here to see if it gives the team a spark. This should be a great game to watch and while the price on Dallas is nice and they've been playing better I think their Ottawa win was contextual and that Winnipeg ends their two game slide at home in this one.
