The Edmonton Oilers look to regroup after a home loss to the Maple Leafs as they head into the MTS Centre to battle the Winnipeg Jets.
The Oilers got off to a red hot start but have been quiet ever since as they are reverting back to their old ways, but have a chance to get back in the win column with a show down against the Jets on Thursday. Edmonton will look for another strong outing from their sophomore sensation in Connor McDavid who leads the league in points so far this season and is a threat to bury or set up a goal at any point in the game and against a Jets side that is decent in their own end he is going to have to be sharp. Cam Talbot will get the start for the Oilers as he will match up against Connor Hellebuyck who has seemingly taken over as the every day starter for the Jets as he has been better than Mike Hutchinson.
The Jets meanwhile look to get back to the .500 mark with a home win here and they will get Brian Little back in the lineup which should provide a boost to the offense that has been quiet aside from Mark Schiefele. Winnipeg is one of the more polarizing teams in the league as some circles have them as a contender in the Western Conference while others think they are destined for a rebuild at season’s end but they are probably firmly in the middle and will need to pick it up a bit if they’re going to challenge for a playoff spot.
The Oilers are 1-6 in their last seven against a team with a losing record and 35-84 in their last 119 road games while the Jets are 7-1 in their last eight against the Pacific and 5-0 in their last five home games. The Jets need to get going and a home date with Edmonton could be their ticket as I think they get it done.
