The Islanders head into Winnipeg on Thursday night looking to build on their win over the Canucks on Tuesday night.
The New York Islanders haven’t been road warriors by any means this season but they grabbed a pivotal victory at Rogers Arena against the Canucks on Tuesday night and now hold a three point edge on the Penguins for third place in the Metro division standings. New York is 34-20-7 in 61 contests this season and have a very good chance at overthrowing the Rangers for second in the division, which would gain them home ice in the first round, and with a sparkling 19-8-4 mark at the Barclay’s Center you can be sure they’d love to hold that designation. Jaroslav Halak is expected to get the start in the New York crease as he will likely face off against Ondrej Pavelec.
The Jets meanwhile have fallen off a cliff this season as they have gone from a playoff team to one in the running for a lottery pick over the span of a calendar year and with Andrew Ladd now on the Blackhawks it’ll be interesting to see what the ownership group does next. The Jets head into tonight’s game sitting in third to last place in the Western Conference and are just a single point up on the Edmonton Oilers who have been playing some pretty good hockey of late and could very well leave the Jets in the West basement heading into the weekend. Winnipeg is usually a force on home ice but haven’t found that same success this season and as such I think the fumble again in this one against a New York side that is on fire right now.
