Bell MTS Centre and the Winnipeg Jets welcome the New York Rangers in NHL action on Sunday.
The New York Rangers have had a trying three weeks with losses in seven of ten where the team has generally struggled at both ends of the ice. New York comes off of a 4-3 win versus Calgary who received goals from Brett Kulak, Curtis Lazar and Matthew Tkachuk.
The balanced Rangers attack featured four different goal scorers with Kevin Hayes, Michael Grabner, Rick Nash and Mika Zibanjad all lighting the lamp. Henrik Lundqvist picked up the win for New York with 28 stops before leaving with a knee injury with Ondrej Pavelec stopping 7-8 in relief. Mike Smith took the loss for the Flames with 32 saves.
The Winnipeg Jets have been consistent winners for nearly four weeks with victories in six of nine where both ends of the ice have contributed to the success. Winnipeg comes off of a 5-2 loss to St. Louis with Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine scoring.
The Blues saw Vladimir Tarasenko score two times with Patrik Berglund, Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz joining the scoring column. Jake Allen picked up the win for St. Louis with 20 saves while Connor Hellebuyck allowed four goals on 26 shots to absorb the loss for Winnipeg.
Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and Rangers are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. Central and Rangers are 1-7 in their last 8 road games. Jets are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and Jets are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 7-1 in Jets last 8 vs. a team with a losing record. Road team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings and Rangers are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Winnipeg.
This game does hold a lot of appeal for me but I’ll throw this out there now and continue to dig in to this…
