NHL action comes to the Bell MTS Centre where the Winnipeg Jets host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
The Ottawa Senators have been in a long slump and need a quick turnaround to regain their footing. Ottawa had lost seven straight before getting in to the win column with a 6-5 victory at the red hot New York Islanders on Friday night.
New York saw Anders Lee score two times with Andrew Ladd, Anthony Beauvillier and Jason Chimera also lighting the lamp. Josh Bailey added two assists but Thomas Greiss allowed five goals on 18 shots before the Islanders removed him in favor of Jaroslav Halak who stopped 14-15 shots.
The Senators received two goals from Ryan Dzingel with Bobby Ryan, Zach Smith, Thomas Chabot and Mike Hoffman also scoring. Chabot also logged two helpers with Craig Anderson giving up five goals before Mike Condom made 19 saves.
The Winnipeg Jets are sitting atop the Central although the season is so young that it doesn’t mean anything right now. Winnipeg has won four of six after downing the Vegas Golden Knights 7-4 on Friday night.
Even the high scoring Knights couldn’t keep up here with Vegas receiving goals from Cody Eakin, William Karlsson, Erik Haula and Colin Miller. Maxim Lagace absorbed the loss for Vegas with six goals given up on 37 shots.
The explosive attack of Winnipeg received a pair of tallies from Kyle Connor while Patrik Laine, Matt Hendricks, Nikolaj Ehlers, Tyler Myers and Mark Scheifele. Blake Wheeler added three helpers and Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves fro the Jets.
Over is 4-0 in Senators last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and over is 4-0 in Senators last 4 vs. Central and Senators are 1-7 in their last 8 overall. Jets are 5-0 in their last 5 Sunday games and over is 4-0 in Jets last 4 vs. Atlantic and over is 8-1 in Jets last 9 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game. Senators are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Winnipeg and under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and road team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.
The Jets are a surprise first place team and hopefully that momentum doesn’t go to their heads…
