The Philadelphia Flyers look to snap out of their ugly road losing ways as they head into the MTS Centre to face off against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Flyers head into Winnipeg looking to keep their fading playoff hopes intact as they face off against a Jets side that has underachieved this season and will be playing for their own playoff lives but both look bleak at this point. Philadelphia started the season as one of the league’s top teams but they have since gone into a rut and their play away from home will ultimately be their demise as they have been dreadful on the road and are 4-17 in their last 21 outside of Philadelphia. The Flyers do have some great talent in the offensive zone and some budding young stars in the back end but a down season from last year’s rookie sensation Shayne Gostisbehere has some fans concerned and the front office will be on the hot seat in what could ve a very busy offseason for them.
The Jets meanwhile have been red hot in their last 11 home games against teams who have a winning percentage below the .400 mark as they have nine victories in that span and have kept their bid for a Western Conference playoff spot alive for now as the season winds down. The Flyers enter tonight’s game sitting seven points back of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and are just three games above the 500 mark and they know full well they need to go on a run but against a Jets side that is 10 back of the Predators for the last spot in the West they know they will have their work cut out for them. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to be back in the crease in this one as he will face off against Michal Neuvirth in a game that could very well come down to who can keep more pucks of their net.
The Flyers are 1-4 in their last five against the Central and 1-7 in their last eight following a win while the Jets are 5-16 in their last 21 against the Metro and are 4-9 in their last 13 overall. This is going to be an exciting game between two desperate teams and while Philly may be closer to the playoffs I think the Jets are the better team and are at home.
