The Line: Winnipeg Jets / St. Louis Blues --- Over/Under:
The St. Louis Blues will look to win their second game in as many nights as they’re coming off a hard fought win against the Blackhawks and now must face a Jets team who is underachieving at the moment.
The Blues suffered their first loss of the season last week at home against the San Jose Sharks and had a very difficult task of following that up with a game on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks. St. Louis responded in a big way as they escaped the United Centre with two critical points and now head into Winnipeg look for another win at the MTS Centre – arguably the toughest place to play in terms of fan noise. The Blues are a very sound team as they have a ton of veterans up front that is helping curtail the youth and energy of the young studs and it is a perfect combination for Ken Hitchcock’s bunch. I am a little nervous for the Blues here coming off a hard fought win against one of their archrivals, especially in a building like the MTS Centre but if there is any team that can go on the road and generate success it is the Blues.
The Jets will look to improve on their 3-4 record when they host St. Louis on a very light Friday night and in the process improve their home record which stands at 2-3 on the year, something they’ll have to improve on if they want to make the Western Conference playoffs. The Jets have been a tough team to figure out as they have a nice balance up front and one of the better defensive units in the game but they can’t seem to string together victories, and while it is still early in the season the Jets need all the help they can get and must take advantage of games they should win. Ondrej Pavelec gets the nod in the Jets crease here but I’m not sold on him as the team’s every day starter and as the season goes along we could see a switch over to former Michigan Wolverines goaltender Al Montoya as he has been lights out for the Jets in all of his relief efforts. While the Blues are coming off a win last night and might be tired in this one I still think they’re the better team and we catch them at a nice price and I don’t think there is anywhere else for us to lean here.
